The Uttaradhyayana Sutra is based on the oral discourses and final teachings of Bhagavan Mahavira, compiled later by his chief disciples (Ganadharas) to preserve his spiritual legacy.
The scripture consists of 36 chapters (adhyayanas), which act as 36 steps toward self-realization.
Chapter 1-10: Focus on discipline, monastic duties, the endurance of hardships, and parables.
Chapter 11-36: Feature historical stories, philosophical discourses, and scientific analyses of karma, psychology, and the nature of the soul.
